Patrons needed for “Social Development Artists”

Initially, in addition to modest financial support to socially committed friends, Ms Poole offered her professional time to counsel on fundraising or communication approaches, review project proposals, participate in planning etc, and also to introduce or lead them to potential funders for their projects. But with an uncertain income herself, she found she could not sustain a personal giving program, nor always be available professionally when necessary—which she realized was also true of other supporters.

Not surprisingly, depression and burnout are common among those who have committed their lives to serving the needs of others, taking increasing burdens on their shoulders. This happens most often in mid-life when financial pressures mount as their own children move into higher levels of schooling. Those “social development artists” who operate without a larger organization to assist them begin to face the dual challenge of their increasing needs in the field and their shrinking marketability in the world. Worries can loom over potential donor fatigue among their modest list of regular contributors and they are sometimes torn between the responsibilities to their family and their work.

The knowledge of the need became weighty for Ms Poole, especially when she could not respond to requests for help. Thus, PeaceDiviners™ was conceived, to support the witnessed need to source steady funds, primarily as personal income, for those extraordinary people on the planet who have forgone ordinary jobs and comfortable incomes to serve their communities—adopted or otherwise—whatever the size. PeaceDiviners™ was designed as an umbrella fundraising organization for a diverse group of self-selected individuals whose common denominator is an all-consuming need to serve the less fortunate. Similar to the researcher with a burning desire to study, these people who are focused on improving the lives of others are singular in their interest, but instead of writing a dissertation, they are living it.
